Peace Keeper
For a long time, you may have thought your greatest strength was keeping peace.
You learned how to read the room before anyone said a word. You noticed changes in someone's tone, footsteps, facial expressions, and silence. You learned when to speak, when to stay quiet, when to apologize, and when to make yourself smaller.
You became really good at preventing conflict.
Maybe you became the woman everyone could count on to smooth things over. The one who listened. The one who forgave quickly. The one who understood everyone else's feelings, even when no one stopped to ask about yours.
You became a Peace Keeper.
And perhaps no one told you that surviving chaos can teach you to confuse peace with the abscence of conflict.
But God wants to teach you something different, if you will allow Him to.
He wants to teach you that there is a difference between keeping the peace and receiving His peace.
"And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
Phillippians 4:7
You Were Never Called to Carry Everyone
For some women healing from trauma, people-pleasing isn't simply a personality trait. It can become a learned response. Maybe trauma taught you that safety depended on your ability to anticipate everyone's needs.
So you learned to be hyper aware
You watched expressions
You learned to anticipate.
You tried to prevent arguements before they happened.
You learned to accomodate, trying to make sure that everyone else is okay.
You learned to over-explain
You learned to say "I'm fine" when you were'nt.
You learned to forgive before you had a chance to process what happened.
You learned to carry responsibility for emotions that were never yours to carry.
And eventually, you may have forgotten how to ask yourself a simple question:
"Am I okay?"
God never asked you to carry what He never assigned to you.
There are burdens that belong at His feet.
There are battles that belong in His hands.
There are people whose emotions that you cannot control, no matter how carefully you walk around them.
You can love people without carrying them.
You can pray for people without rescuing them.
You can forgive people without giving them unlimited access to you.
And you can trust God enough to let Him be God.
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
1 Peter 5:7
God Does'nt Need You to Abandon Yourself
Sometimes we confuse being a good Christian with always saying yes.
We confuse forgiveness with pretending that it didn't hurt.
We confuse grace with tolerating everything.
We confuse humility with having no boundaries.
But Jesus never asked you to disappear in order to love others.
You are allowed to say no.
You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to walk away from unhealthy situations.
You are allowed to protect what God has entrusted you.
You are allowed to acknowledge that something has wounded you.
Forgiveness does not require you to deny your pain.
Healing does not mean that you pretend that the wound never happened.
Sometimes Faith looks like finally telling God the truth and understanding His truth.
"Lord, this hurt me. I don't know how to carry this anymore. I'm giving it to You."
And then let God meet you there and let Him wrap His loving arms around you.
Your Peace Doesn't Have to Depend on the Room
You may have spent years believing that peace meant that nobody was angry.
But God's peace is different.
God's peace can exist even when someone is disappointed with you.
It can exist when you don't have all the answers.
It can exist when you are waiting.
It can exist when you have to say goodbye to an unhealthy relationship.
It can exist when you are rebuilding your life.
Biblical peace isn't simply the abscence of trouble.
It is the presence of God in the middle of it.
Jesus said:
"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you."
John 14:27
That peace is a gift.
You do not have to earn it by being perfect.
Let God Teach You Safety
Healing can be uncomfortable because God may begin asking you to release survival patterns that once protected you.
He may teach you that you don't have to respond immediately.
You don't have to explain yourself to everyone.
You don't have to fix every misunderstanding.
You don't have to chase people who chose to walk away.
You don't have to keep proving your worth.
You can be still.
"Be still, and know that I am God."
Psalm 46:10
For a woman who has spent years surviving, stillness can feel frightening.
But simetimes God does His deepest work in quiet.
In the quiet, He reminds you:
You are Mine.
You are loved.
You are not forgotten.
You are not what happened to you.
You don't have to carry tomorrow today.
You Can Put Down Your Self Made Protective Armor and Put on the Armor of Christ
Maybe you have been strong for so long that you don't know who you are without your self-protecting armor.
You have been the dependable one.
The forgiving one.
The strong one.
The one everybody calls.
The one who holds the family together.
But God never asked you to be everyone's savior.
There is already a Savior!
His name is Jesus.
You can put down what you have been carrying.
You can stop trying to control outcomes.
You can stop taking responsibility for things that belong to other people.
You can breathe.
You can rest.
You can trust.
And when fear whispers, "What if everything falls apart?"
You can answer:
"God will still be God."
Becoming a Woman of Peace
Maybe God is not calling you to become better at keeping peace.
Maybe He's calling you to become rooted in His peace.
There is a difference.
A peacekeeper asks:
"How can I make everyone okay?"
A woman rooted in God's peace asks:
"Lord, what are you asking me to do?"
A peace keeper fears disappointing people.
A woman rooted in God's peace understands that obedience to God may sometimes disappoint people.
A peace keeper constantly looks outward.
A woman rooted in God's peace learns to look upward.
And perhaps this is a part of your healing:
Learning that you can love others without losing yourself.
Learning that boundaries can coexist with grace.
Learning that forgiveness can coexist with wisdom.
Learning that rest can coexist with purpose.
Learning that saying"no", can coexist with being a woman of Faith.
God Sees You
God saw you when you were surviving.
He saw the tears that nobody else saw.
He saw the nights you questionsed your worth.
He saw the moments when you smiled when your heart was breaking.
He saw every time that you chose to keep going.
And He sees you now.
You don't have to spend the rest of your life managing the chaos that once surrounded you.
You can build a life rooted in Christ.
A life where your idenity isn't determined by othere people's approval.
A life where your boundaries are not apologies.
A life where your past is part of your testimony, but not the author of your future.
A life where peace doesn't depend on circumstances because your peace is anchored in God.
"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you."
Isaiah 26:3
So, take a deep breath.
Release responsibility.
Release the guilt.
Release the need to fix everything.
Release the fear of disappointing everyone.
Give God what you were never meant to carry, and let Him teach you how to live differently.
You don't have to be the woman who keeps everyone else at peace.
You can be the woman who knows where her peace comes from.
Your Peace Comes From God.
When you understand that, you won't have to keep chasing peace.
You will begin to carry it with you.
